Level Four
Level Four Scouts wear a green rope. Two sticks are required for the lashings.
There are six knots and lashing which must be demonstrated for this level:
- sheet bend
- sheepshank
- one-handed bowline
- square lashing
- diagonal lashing
- shear lashing
Why do you have to tie a bowline using only one hand? You may be in a situation (such as a water rescue) which requires you to quickly tie a bowline while your other hand is busy. Also, not all Scouts have two fully-functional hands, so this challenge lets you experience what tying a knot is like for them.
